This page describes what the site leaves in your browser in sentences that can be checked. The short answer: an anonymous visitor reading the pages receives no cookie, and there are no tracking, advertising or analytics cookies. The long answer follows, and this page changes whenever the site’s code does.
No cookie for anonymous visits
The site runs on Drupal. Drupal does not create a session cookie for a visitor who is not logged in; reading pages, searching and moving between pages leaves no cookie in the browser. You can verify this yourself: open the storage tab of your browser’s developer tools and look at the cookies listed for this domain; while you read, the list stays empty. The site carries no advertising network, no social media plugin and no visitor counter, so there are no third-party cookies either.
When a session cookie is created
Drupal creates a session cookie in two situations. The first is when you submit the quote form: a short-lived session is opened so that the confirmation message can be shown after submission; that cookie is removed when the browser closes or when the session expires on the server, and it is not used to track anyone. The second is when the site’s editors log in to edit content; that cookie belongs to the logged-in user only and does not concern visitors. Both cookies belong to the site’s own domain, are not shared with any other site and carry no personal data; they contain a random session identifier and nothing else.
Tools that run in the browser
The checkers on this site (route, party status, order of steps, document age and the others) run entirely in your browser. The country, document type or date you choose is sent to no server and is stored neither in a cookie nor in the browser’s local storage; when you close the page, everything you entered is gone. The code of the tools uses neither localStorage nor sessionStorage and makes no network request. The country data the tools need arrives with the page itself. The spam protection on the quote form relies on a hidden field and a timing check; it uses no cookie.
Third-party content and the typeface
The site’s typeface (Literata) is served from the site’s own server; no request goes to a font service, so no such service can see your visit. The pages embed no video, map or script from outside sources. The external links on the site (the official system, legislation, the HCCH tables) take you to that site when you click them, and that site’s own cookie rules apply from then on; nothing reaches that site before you click.
Server logs are not cookies
The absence of cookies does not mean that a visit leaves no trace at all. The hosting provider’s server keeps an access log for security and technical operation; the IP address, the time and the page requested appear in it. That information sits on the server, not in your browser, is not a cookie and is not used to recognise you between visits. The legal basis and the retention period of the logs are described in the privacy notice.
How this page is updated
This page was written by measuring the site’s code; the code contains no component that sets a cookie or sends data out. Should an analytics tool ever be added, this page is updated first: the name of the tool, what it collects, the lifetime of its cookie and the choice mechanism are written here, and the tool is not switched on before this page is published. The verification date on the page shows the last measurement. If you notice that this page and the code disagree, a note to the address on the contact details page is enough.
